Dr.
David B. Hinshaw is the internationally renowned
medical leader whose clear vision and unfailing
administrative drive spearheaded the growth of
Loma Linda University Medical School for a period
of more than three decades. From 1961 through
1995, Dr. Hinshaw held administrative positions
of increasing responsibility at Loma Linda, including
Chairman of the Surgery Department, Dean of the
Medical School, and CEO of the Medical Center.
During that time, his accomplishments included
the consolidation of the Loma Linda University
Medical School into one unified campus, the subsequent
building of the 550-bed Loma Linda University
Medical Center teaching hospital, and the establishment
of the 500-bed Veteran's Administration Hospital
at Loma Linda. In addition, Dr. Hinshaw pursued
clinical research at Loma Linda, which resulted
in the publication of over 100 scientific papers.
His pioneering research efforts were instrumental
in establishing Loma Linda as an internationally
renowned center of proton accelerator-based therapeutics
and infant heart transplantation. As a member
